Addis Ababa branch: Improve Sanitation and Hygiene Management through MHM Material support in targeted Primary Governmental Schools of Addis Ababa

The team from Addis Ababa Branch conducted a Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) intervention which included sensitization workshops as well as the distribution of 1000 MHM kits to students in three selected government schools, namely Kidus Markos Primary School, Burka Boru Primary School and Ewket Fana Primary School.  

Harari branch: Harar Town Integrated WASH Response Project

This integrated Urban WASH project was designed to address the WASH challenges within the targeted community, particularly in two districts (Shenkor and Aboker) by providing access to water and sanitation facilities. This was done by connecting 70 HH to public water system and constructing a communal latrine. Additionally, the project raised the community’s level of awareness through providing trainings, and created an enabling environment through developing a pro-poor oriented microfinance linked WASH credit guideline manual, as well as piloting and testing it at selected HHs/community groups.   

Ilu Aba Bor branch: WASH and Livelihood Conditions Improvement Micro Project

The second cycle Skybird micro-project implemented by Ilu Aba Bor branch included the improvement of the water supply system by fitting two hand dug wells with hand pumps and enhancement of a spring in Sedo kebele benefiting a total of 140 HHs. Furthermore, the branch constructed one new public latrine and renovated an existing public latrine facility in Gadisa Oda kebele in Metu town. Additionally, conducted trainings and awareness raising activities.

South Omo branch: Solar-Powered Potable Water Solutions for Kaysa Town

The Skybird micro-project implemented by the South Omo branch aimed at providing a solution to the lack of access to adequate drinking water services in Kayssa town of Baka Dawela Ari district. This was achieved through the following interventions:

Increased coverage of potable water by installing solar powered water pumping system.

  • Increased income of 10 HHs of Kaysa town residents via vegetable production.
  • Increased hygiene and sanitation practices in Kaysa town by maintaining and connecting pipelines, hand washing services, and shower facilities.
  • Installation of water line and water storage tank for a local SME engaged in vegetable production. 

South Wollo branch: Public Latrine with Biogas to Improve the Sanitation and Livelihood of Target Community in Dessie Town

This micro-project aimed at strengthening the capacity of vulnerable women and the disabled in business and facility management, thereby contributing to the sustainable access and use of improved public toilet and shower services, while generating income from the public toilet and shower services. This intervention integrated a biogas technology.

West Arsi branch: WASH and Livelihood conditions improvement of Target Beneficiaries, in Kokosa woreda

The second cycle Skybird micro-project in West Arsi Zone, Kokkosa District, Diki Hora Kebele improved the WASH and livelihood situation of the targeted population. To solve the identified gaps the project provided the following services:

  • Access to drinking water for 400 HHs by constructing two hand dug wells and maintaining 6 existing hand pumps.
  • Provision of 325 sheep to 65 HHs
  • Distribution of vegetable seeds and agricultural tools to 70 HHs
  • Supporting a local saving and credit women groups
  • Provision of mobility devices to people with disabilities
  • Activities related to hygiene promotion, capacity building trainings to Water Management Committees and awareness raising activities on gender equality.

Sidama branch: Economic Empowerment of Women with Skills around WASH Facilities, Food Security and Manufacturing (EEWSWFM) in Yirba

 The regional micro-project included construction of public latrine and shower facilities and construction of a one-stop sanitation product shop. An SME was established to manage the facilities and trainings on public latrine management, sanitation marketing and vertical farming was provided.
