SUMMARY:Public book launch: “Self-supply – Filling the gaps in public water supply provision”
DESCRIPTION:Around the world, hundreds of millions of people are supplying themselves with water by their own means – that is, by investing in upgrading whatever water access they had before. This mechanism, commonly referred to as “self-supply”, has been around for millennia, and it continues being part of the puzzle to reach universal access, also in high- and middle-income countries.\nIn spite of its scale and strategic importance, the topic of self-supply continues being overlooked by many actors in the water sector. The Rural Water Supply Network has been leading discussions around this topic for several years, and we are very pleased that the first book on self-supply is now available.\nPlease join us and the authors to celebrate this moment, and to continue the public debate around self-supply. We will hear from the authors, from a series of commentators of leading actors in the water sector, and you will have the chance to ask questions. We would like to encourage participants to contribute with their own ideas on what they are doing regarding self-supply, or how they want to support self-supply in the future.\nSally Sutton, IRC WASH, Practical Action Publishing, Skat Foundation and the Rural Water Supply Network are happy to announce an upcoming virtual book launch on the topic of Self-supply.\nThe event is to celebrate and launch the first dedicated book on this exciting topic.  You can download or order the book here ( https://practicalactionpublishing.com/book/2530/self-supply ).\n\nDay :                    March 25, 2021\nTime :                  13.00 – 14.00 UTC time zone (see your local time here ( https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Book+launch%3A+Self-supply&iso=20210325T13&p1=%3A&ah=1 ))\nParticipants :     Open to anyone interested\nCosts :                 Free\nSpeakers :          Authors of the book (Dr. Sally Sutton, Dr. John Butterworth, and some of the authors of case studies)\nFacilitators :       Jane Nabunya (IRC Uganda), Sean Furey (RWSN)\n\nCommentators include staff of the African Development Bank, UNICEF, WHO, WaterAid, University of Leeds, and many more.\n
