Project title: Empowering Communities to transform household waste into sustainable solutions

Summary: Every year, the rainy season is a cause of fear for slum dwellers. Due to poor waste collection and managemen, waste often clogs drainage systems which leads to flooding and many people losing their homes. This project tackles this issue through several measures, including waste collection with tricycles, setting up a temporary waste collection center, briquette making of organic waste for income generation, upcycling and selling of recyclable goods to recycling plants. All this aims at empowering communities through strong community engagement and income generation. Additionally, lobbying and advocacy will be done with the city of Kampala to improve the situation in the long-term.
